Portal Flex Gates

What is it?
High-strength Portal Flex Gates (PFG’s) can be deployed rapidly for flood protection of tunnels, vehicular entrances, doors or portals of any kind; can fit openings of any simple shape, size or orientation; simple to operate and can be easily deployed or retracted like a garage door, in a few minutes (powered or manually), by a single person with very little training; scalable to very large openings and water heights in excess of 30 feet; few moving parts, resulting in increased reliability, with minimal maintenance.

What assets can be protected?

Project Phase?
-
Emergency
Implementation Time?
Less than an hour
Useful Life?
Approximately 25 years with proper maintenance
Preliminary Costs?
$$$$
The initial installation cost varies based on application and size of the portal and can be substantial. However, the PFG cost is competitive with comparable systems, such as a more traditional watertight door: approximately $200-250k per system.
Benefits

-
Point-of-use storage - no lost components or off-site storage
-
Rapid deployment
-
Operations resume faster
-
"Scalable" design - sized to fit multiple openings
-
Robust materials and construction - withstands debris impacts
-
Compact storage - stores in small spaces
Limiting Factors

-
Adequate overhead, side, and floor space is required for installation
-
Requires simple portal geometries without obtrusion
-
Continuous conduits or openings outside the portal frame (such as a trench drain) are incompatible with the PFG without special detailing
-
Proprietary nature of the system can be a limitations should replacement parts be required
